Detailed Review

The BWM X1 is a 5-seater luxury compact SUV that has been in production for three generations from 2009 until present. The first generation known as the E84 was in production from 2009 to 2015 and the second generation known as the F48 has been in production from 2015 to 2021 and the third generation began in 2022 to present. It’s built on the same platform as the BMW 3 Series E91.

The 2016 BMW X1 isn’t the most fuel-efficient in its class, but if agility and load capacity are vital to you, the BMW sets the mark. The redesigned 2016 X1 is taller and wider and much roomier on the inside compared to older generations.

The 2016 BMW X1 is offered with 3 engine options; these are a 2.0 Litre turbo petrol engine, a 2.0 Litre turbo diesel engine, and a 2.0 Litre twin-turbo diesel engine. These are linked to either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed Automatic Transmission and are available in 2WD and 4WD.

Interior

Unlike previous BMW X1s, the 2016 X1 boasts a more appealing interior design and one of the most attractive interiors in this price range. The luxurious-looking dashboard combines BMW’s old analog instruments with modern technology and high-quality materials, though you’ll need to opt for the optional 8.8-inch iDrive display screen to fully appreciate the effect.

Exterior

The 2016 BMW X1 looks more like a hatchback than an SUV. The exterior design emphasized height; it is nearly two inches taller than previous generations. Additionally, the X1 gains one inch in breadth and a two-inch larger track. Headlights and taillights mounted high on the front and rear fascias amplify the effect.

Comfort

The 2016 BMW X1 is built on a budget, and while none of the interior materials seem or feel cheap, they do appear to be less expensive than you’d expect in a luxury vehicle. The sophisticated seat design and color options, on the other hand, exude a clearly high-end feel. The matte-finish wood trim and contrasting stitching in our test car wowed us.

Safety

The 2016 BMW X1 is equipped with a variety of driver assistance features, however, they are all optional. Lane departure warning; speed limit information; automatic high beams; frontal collision warning with pedestrian alert and city collision mitigation; and active cruise control with stop-and-go functionality are all included in the Driver Assistance Plus package. The Driver Assistance package includes a rearview camera, park distance control, and a parallel parking assist.
