The first Subaru Legacy model, designated BC/BF/BJ, was on sale in 1989 and lasted until 1992. The Legacy entered its second generation, called BD/BG/BK, in 1993 and was produced until 1997. From 1998 to 2002, the Legacy’s third generation, classified as BE/BH, was in production. The fourth generation of the Legacy began production in 2003 and lasted until 2008. It was given the codename BL/BP. The Subaru Legacy BM/BR, the fifth generation, was produced from 2009 to 2014.

The Legacy entered its sixth generation, known as BN/BS, in 2014 and remained in production until 2020. The Subaru Legacy is currently in its seventh generation, codenamed BW/BT. The 2019 Subaru Legacy comes with two engines, a 2.5 L FB25 (Petrol) and a 3.6 L EZ36D (Petrol), both of which are connected to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
