The Toyota SAI was launched in 2009 as a luxurious hybrid that targets an upscale clientele as an alternative to the Prius. It is built on the platform as the Lexus HS250h and features many similarities. It plays a role as an intermediate model that fills the gap between the higher graded Crown Hybrid and the lower graded Prius.

It comes with a 2.4L 2AZ-FXE engine that is linked to a THS II hybrid system, the same as the Prius and it achieves a fuel consumption of 22.4 Km/L while maintaining a high power output. In the ‘POWER mode’ the hybrid motor is switched off and the car runs fully on the petrol engine giving it excellent sports like performance.
