2017 Ford Everest Review

The Ford Everest is a midsize SUV that is produced and marketed by Ford Motor Company. Unlike the Ranger, which had a Mazda B series or BT-50 counterpart until 2020, the Everest has no Mazda equivalent because it was deemed unsuitable for the brand. Its market has been steadily growing in Kenya because of its spacious cabin, off-road capability, and practicality. It contends against the Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MUX, Nissan Terra, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

Detailed Review

The first generation Ford Everest, codenamed U268/UR, went into production in 2003 and lasted until 2015. Because it is built on the Ranger, it retains the Ranger’s double wishbone independent front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension, while also being designed to provide superior ride comfort and handling than the Ranger.

The Everest received a significant facelift in 2006, with the entire front and side body panels redone to match the redesign of its base vehicle, the Ranger. There was also a redesigned front fascia, a new transmission, and a better engine. The revamp also included a new 5-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford Everest’s second generation, designated U375/UA, began manufacture in 2015 and stayed in production until 2022. It has been completely redesigned, with rounder proportions for a more modern appearance. The second generation Ford Everest is shorter in length but wider and taller than its predecessor, modifying its proportions. The wheelbase was also shortened.

This edition of the Everest had a facelift in 2018, which featured design changes, an updated equipment list, a new 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine, and a 10-speed automated transmission. Autonomous Emergency Braking, a standard kick-activated power liftgate, and new alloy wheels are among the other modifications.

The third generation Ford Everest, codenamed U704/UB, started being manufactured in 2022 and is still in production today. The 2017 Ford Ranger has two engine choices; a 2.0 L (Diesel) and a 3.2 L (Diesel) coupled to a 6-speed automated transmission.

Interior

Legroom & Space

The interior of the 2017 Ford Everest is big and exquisite, with a leather touch. It is available in either a 5-seater or a 7-seater configuration, depending on the owner’s preferences.

The first row has plenty of leg and headroom. The seats can recline to a preferred position. The second row is also impressive, with plenty of knee and headroom. These seats can be slid forward and backward to improve leg space, and the seatback angles can be adjusted. The second row folds down but not completely flat.

Because of the limited leg and headroom, the third row of seats is perfect for children.

There is a center console, a glovebox, two cupholders, and door pockets in the first row. Two cupholders, jacket pockets, and door pockets are incorporated in the second row. Cupholders are available to third-row passengers.

Boot Space

The 2017 Ford Everest offers 9.1 cubic feet of space when all seven seats are in place. With the third row folded, 31.7 cubic feet of space will have been created. When the second and third rows of seats are folded, the 2017 Everest provides 64.3 cubic feet of space.

Its tailgate is electronically driven which could be very convenient especially when your hands are full of cargo.

Exterior

The 2017 Ford Everest borrows design cues from the Ford Ranger. The Everest appears to be macho from the front. There is a chrome grille with the Ford logo mounted to it, and this asserts its presence. On either side of the grille are well-placed headlamps with LED daytime running lights.

The Everest lettering is etched onto a strip of chrome cotton and stretches across the wide rear. The mirror housings and door handles also have chrome trim. Tail lights and turn signals are also included in the back end. Its tailgate is electronically operated.

Silver bumper inserts, roof rails, and side steps with Everest branding are also included.

Spare Parts and Availability

Body components are a little pricey and sometimes difficult to find for they are not available in some major towns.

Stability And Handling

The 2017 Ford Everest has a reputation for solid and stable driving. The steering is accurate and quick, with superb turn-in and mid-corner stability. The gearbox shifts swiftly and effectively, and the sport mode is useful, but the gearbox is sophisticated enough that it is rarely used. There are even forward and rear parking sensors, making tight maneuvering effortless.

The suspension system installed in this mid-size SUV is comparable to that of the Ford Ranger, but with a slight improvement that provides better comfort to the passengers within. This vehicle is also well-insulated, so noise picked up from rough terrain does not reach the passengers inside. It has a good towing capacity due to the trailer sway control that is encompassed.

The bottom line is that Everest is a very capable car, regardless of the drivetrain.

Reliability

The 2017 Ford Everest is considered a very reliable car. However, like any other car, it is not free from flaws. Transmission issues are the most commonly reported problem in this midsize SUV. Regular service and maintenance are highly required to avoid such issues.

Refer to the Ford Everest buyer guide for a thorough dependability report. We also urge that you always follow the instructions in the owner’s manual.
