2017 Isuzu MUX Review

The Isuzu MUX is a mid-size SUV that is manufactured by Isuzu. It is the successor to the MU-7 and a body-on-frame SUV based on the D-MAX. MU-X is an acronym that stands for Multi Utility- Extreme. Because of its off-road capability, durability, high towing capacity, and spacious interior, the MUX has built a formidable brand in the Kenyan market since its inception. As much as it boasts all the perks of a good car, it is up against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Nissan Terra, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

2017 Isuzu MUX front and side view

The first version of the Isuzu MUX, designated RF, was produced from 2013 until 2020. The MUX is the result of a partnership between General Motors and Isuzu. As a result, it shared its platform with the Chevrolet Trailblazer/Holden Colorado, which debuted before MU-X.

The MUX had a facelift in 2017, that brought with it integrated LED front and tail lights as well as better interior quality with the inclusion of soft material.

The MUX’s second iteration was developed in 2020 and is presently in production. It is built on the same platform as the third-generation D-Max, which is also related to the third-generation Mazda BT-50.

The 2017 Isuzu MUX is powered by two engine options, a 1.9 L RZ4E-TC (Diesel), and a 3.0 L 4JJ1-TCX (Diesel) which are coupled to a 6-speed Aisin automated transmission.

The cabin of the 2017 Isuzu MUX is sleek and sophisticated.

There is plenty of legroom and headroom in the first row. The seats are sufficiently large to accommodate the thighs, and they can recline to meet a preferred posture. The second row is also impressive, with plenty of knee and headroom. The third row of seats may be problematic for adults due to limited leg and headroom, but it is ideal for kids.
