The first generation of the Navara codenamed D22 was manufactured from 1997 to 2004. The second generation of the Navara designated D40 debuted its production in 2004 and continued up to 2014. The Nissan Navara is currently in its third generation. After the release of the D23, which is only available with 4-cylinder engines, the D40 remained in production only with the V6 and automatic transmission.

The 2017 Nissan Navara is available with three engine options, a 2.5 L QR25DE (Petrol), a 2.3 L YS23DDTT (Diesel), and a 2.5 L YD25DDTi linked to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission.
