2017 VW Touareg Review

The Volkswagen Touareg is a five-seater car manufactured by the Volkswagen Group in Germany. This vehicle was named after the nomadic Tuareg tribe who lived in North Africa's Saharan interior. Its agility and interior styling have piqued the interest of vehicle enthusiasts. As much as it enjoys the perks of a good car, it competes against BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, Mercedes Benz GLE, Range Rover Sport, and Volvo XC90.

The first generation VW Touareg, designated 7L, was manufactured from 2002 to 2010. The Touareg comes standard with a four-wheel drive technology called 4motion. It had an automatic progressively locking center differential (with manual override) and an in-cabin “low range” setting. To improve off-road capability, the Touareg included an optional 4-wheel active air suspension that can raise the ride height on command, as well as a locking rear differential.

In 2006, the Touareg received a facelift. An adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and freshly revised comfort seats were incorporated. All diesel variants are now fitted with a diesel particulate filter as a standard feature.

The second generation VW Touareg, designated 7P, was produced from 2010 to 2018. It had a lane departure warning system, adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitor, and an adaptive air suspension.

During this period, the Touareg hybrid was also launched. The Touareg 7P received a redesign for the 2016 model year, which included standard bi-xenon headlights, an automatic post-collision braking system, a revised adaptive cruise control, and an improved basic steel-spring suspension.

The third-generation VW Touareg, codenamed CR, was introduced in 2018 and is still in production to date. It places a greater emphasis on fuel efficiency. In 2020, the Touareg R plug-in hybrid model was introduced to the public.

The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg is available in a single-engine option; a 3.6 L (Petrol) mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Reliability

The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg is a dependable vehicle, but it must be serviced on a regular basis to reap its full benefits. One of the most frequently reported issues by Touareg owners is with the fuel system. Some versions are prone to gasoline leaks, which can cause engine misfires, acceleration stuttering, and power loss.

Refer to the Volkswagen Touareg buyer guide for a thorough dependability report. We also urge that you always follow the instructions in the owner’s manual.
