2018 Nissan GT-R Review

The Nissan GT-R (Gran Turismo Racing) famously known as "Godzilla" in Japan is a 2-door 4-seater sports car whose popularity in the Kenyan market is not substantial but at least noticeable. Its exorbitant price makes it an uphill task for the majority of Kenyans to buy hence it is largely associated with the wealthy. The GT-R is built on the PM platform, which is based on the FM platform used in the Skyline and Nissan Z vehicles. It was the successor to the Nissan Skyline GT-R. As much as it boasts grandeur, it competes with the Porsche 911, Chevrolet Corvette, Jaguar F-Type, BMW i8, and Mercedes-Benz AMG GTR.

The Nissan GT-R first appeared in 2007, and it has since undergone numerous modifications, tweaks, and upgrades to become what it is now. The GT-R is based on the PM platform and has unique concepts and technologies such as increased aerodynamics, an active suspension system, and the ATTESA E-TS Pro all-wheel-drive system, making it the world’s first rear-mounted independent transaxle all-wheel-drive vehicle. It was one of the first vehicles to use launch control and a dual-clutch transmission. Steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber make up the overall body.

The 2018 Nissan GT-R is available with a single engine option: a 3.8 L V6 twin turbo-charged VR38DETT (Petrol) mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Interior

Legroom & Space

The 2018 Nissan GT-R is offered in a two-seat 2+2 configuration. The first row offers ample legroom and headroom and the bucket seats can recline to fit a desired posture. Adults sitting in the second row will find it crampy and unpleasant due to limited knee room and headroom because of the slanting roof line. It is only ideal for kids.

Cabin Storage

The 2018 Nissan GT-R has various storage spaces for stuff such as soft drinks, paperwork, keys, and other items. There are two cupholders, door pockets, a glove box, and a center console in the first row. A cup holder is available to second-row passengers.

Boot Space

The 2018 Nissan GT-R features an ample boot that can only accommodate small and medium-sized luggage.

Exterior

The 2018 Nissan GT-R has an aggressive and muscular design, earning it the moniker “Godzilla.” The front end is defined by a huge grille with some chrome embellishments and the GT-R stamp to assert its authority. The bonnet is fitted with air ducts, which not only give the car a stylish appearance but also help to cool the engine. The lower fascia incorporates a lip spoiler and air vents, which enhance the GT-R’s aerodynamics and contribute to its high speed.

The side profile of the GT-R has a low ground clearance and side skirts, making it more aesthetically beautiful. The rear end retains its predecessors’ signature four-round taillights. The rear also has air ducts and vents for additional brake cooling and to create a smoother airflow to reduce drag. The rear spoiler is body-colored, but certain special versions have a dry carbon fiber rear spoiler to boost rear downforce.

Stability And Handling

The 2018 Nissan GT-R offers a smooth and pleasant ride. The cabin is substantially quieter at all speeds, due to Active Noise Cancellation technology and new sound-absorbing materials such as an acoustic glass windscreen. At high speeds, the steering wheel responds effectively to road curvature and becomes very firm. Because of its low ground clearance, it has a tight grip on the road and has little to no body roll.

The suspension system of the GT-R protects the occupants against jerky movements. Because it can accelerate very quickly in a matter of seconds, it is equipped with powerful brakes that can put it to a halt in a matter of seconds, preventing any form of catastrophe. To improve stability, this vehicle has Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Stability Control, and Cruise Control.

Reliability

The 2018 Nissan GT-R is a reliable vehicle. Because of its low ground clearance, it is not recommended to go off-road. The most prevalent concerns cited by GT-R owners are engine jerking and transmission troubles. To avoid such issues, regular servicing and maintenance are essential.

Refer to the Nissan GT-R buyer guide for a thorough reliability report. We also urge that you always follow the instructions in the owner’s manual.
