2019 Mitsubishi Pajero Review

The Mitsubishi Pajero has been around for ages and through its iterations, it was more evolutionary than revolutionary. Since its inception in 1982, it has carved a niche as one of the most capable off-road vehicles in the automobile industry. Unfortunately, it was discontinued in 2021 as the manufacturers cited they wanted to change the buyer preference and also its sales were plummeting. Its perfect blend of practicality, reliability, and versatility won the hearts of many people in the Kenyan market. Mitsubishi has undergone four generations of production. In 1982, the Pajero commenced its production which continued up to 1991. It was available as a three-door short wheelbase and later on, the five-door long wheelbase was unveiled. The second iteration of the Pajero was in production from 1991 to 1999. In this period, the Pajero was redesigned and had a new and large body. The super select four-wheel drive which was also known as the Active Trac in other markets was introduced.

The third generation of the Pajero was manufactured from 1999 to 2006. It had a lower, wider, and monocoque construction with integrated ladder frame chassis for increased torsional rigidity. The Pajero is currently in its fourth generation. The 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero comes with three engine options, a 3.0 L 6G72 (Petrol), 3.8 6G75 (Petrol), and a 3.2 L 4M41 (Diesel) linked to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Exterior

The 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero has an aggressive and muscular appearance. The Pajero can be easily identified from a distance through its dynamic shield grille that helps this SUV express its supremacy wherever it traverses. Since the Pajero is solely focused on the evolution side rather than revolution, the LED daytime running lights and the headlights lend it a modern and refined look which helps it compete with the latest SUV body designs. Air vents are neatly placed on the lower fascia and play a big role in helping to cool the engine.

The side profile of this SUV has running boards as well as flared wheel arches which is one of the distinctive features the manufacturers of the Pajero have maintained in each passing generation. The rear end has a large tailgate as well as tail lights and turn signals. Some models have a tow hitch right under the rear bumper and can be used to pull a trailer especially when one is an adventurer or even when going camping. Parking sensors and a reverse camera are fitted in the back end of the Pajero to aid the driver while traversing in confined spaces.
