The 4W60 was the first generation of the Patrol, produced from 1951 to 1960. The second generation of the Patrol codenamed 60, began production in 1960 and continued until 1980. The third generation of the Patrol, known as the 160, was produced from 1980 to 1986. The Model 260, also classified as the third iteration of the Patrol, was produced from 1986 to 1993. Production of the Y60 debuted in 1988 and continued until 1997, marking the fourth generation of the Patrol. The fifth generation of the Patrol, the Y61, was in production from 1997 to 2010. The Nissan Patrol is currently in its sixth generation, codenamed Y62.

The 2019 Nissan Patrol is available with one engine option; a 5.6L VK56DE/ VK56VD V8 (Petrol) linked to a 7-speed automatic transmission.
