2019 Range Rover Sport Review

The Range Rover Sport is winning the hearts of many Kenyan drivers because it combines luxury, above-average safety features, a more advanced infotainment system, and off-road prowess in one package. Something out of the norm.  As much as it enjoys the perks of an excellent car, it is up against  Mercedes-Benz GLE Cadillac Escalade, Audi Q7, BMW X5, Lexus RX 350, and Porsche Cayenne.

Detailed Review

The first generation Range Rover Sport designated L320, was produced from 2005 to 2013. The chassis is based on the Discovery 3’s integrated body frame, semi-monocoque, independent suspension design, which debuted in 2004. In the Range Rover Sport, this is intended to provide the refinement and structural rigidity benefits of a monocoque chassis while still giving the toughness of a distinct chassis design for off-road applications.

This midsize SUV incorporates air suspension as standard, giving the driver three ride height options, which is quite useful when driving off-road. Terrain Response, which first appeared on the Discovery 3, is now standard across the board. The L320’s Terrain Response allows the driver to select each of the five extra settings by pressing a switch left or right.

The Dynamic Response system incorporates electrohydraulic active anti-roll bars that react to cornering forces and activate and deactivate as needed for great on-road performance.

The second generation Range Rover Sport codenamed L494, went into production in 2013 and lasted all the way to 2022. The new Range Rover Sport builds on the Evoque design and the full-size 2013 Range Rover. In contrast to the previous generation’s integrated body-frame chassis, the L494 Range Rover Sport has an all-aluminum monocoque body.

The third generation Range Rover Sport codenamed L461, debuted in 2022 and is still in production today.

The 2019 Range Rover Sport is available with four engine options: a 2.0 L (Hybrid), 3.0 L (Diesel), 3.0 L (Petrol), and 5.0 L (Petrol), all coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
