Detailed Review

2019 VW Tiguan side and front view

The first version of Tiguan was built on the PQ46 platform, whereas the second generation was built on the MQB A2. It is up against Mazda CX5, Subaru Forester, Honda CRV, Nissan X-trail, RAV4, and Mitsubishi Outlander. Between 2007 and 2015, the VW Tiguan 5N was the first model produced. There were just two engines available: a 2.0 L and a 1.4 L petrol. All Tiguans from the first generation have two rows of seating and transversely positioned four-cylinder engines. The Volkswagen Passat, Volkswagen Sharan, Skoda Superb, and SEAT Alhambra are all built on the PQ46 platform.

Volkswagen updated the Tiguan for 2012 models with a facelift. The headlamps were bolder and more angular, while the Golf and new Passat’s distinctive horizontal grille bars and angular line design of the two-part taillight clusters were preserved. Furthermore, performance has been improved. The cabin has been updated, with a new three-spoke steering wheel and gear selector.

The Tiguan’s second generation, codenamed AD/BW, was manufactured from 2016 until 2023. To optimize internal space, the rear bench seats were divided asymetrically. It comes in two wheelbase configurations: a five-seater with a short wheelbase and a seven-seater with a long wheelbase.

The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan has a single engine option: a 2.0 L (Petrol) engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Interior

Legroom & Space

The cabin of the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan is designed and laid out similarly to that of the Volkswagen Golf. It’s not particularly stylish, and some may even describe it as plain, but everything is simple to use and locate, and the materials are of great quality.

The first row has lots of legroom and headroom, as well as chairs that can recline to a comfortable posture.

The second row is also impressive, with plenty of knee and headroom.

The third row of seats is optional in various variations, however, it is only appropriate for children due to limited headroom and legroom.

Stability And Handling

Despite being one of the heaviest SUVs in its class, the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan feels surprisingly light. This gives you more confidence while you’re rushing through corners or completing the traffic slalom. The steering is light and numb in the center, but ultimately precise. There is also some body roll, and the ride is soft, but it feels solid and provides adequate confidence.

The engine is powerful enough, and it basically comes standard with the type of turbocharged performance that some of its competitors offer as an option. The turbo 2.0-liter engine is quiet at low rpm but harsh and noisy when pushed hard.

Adaptive cruise control comes as a standard feature that aids in giving the vehicle a firm grip on the road regardless of the weather condition.

Reliability

The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan must be serviced and maintained on a regular basis in order to reach its maximum potential. Because of its high ground clearance, it can handle mild off-road terrain.

Water pump failure is one of the most often reported issues with the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan. The water pump is in charge of circulating coolant throughout the engine to keep it from overheating.

Refer to the Volkswagen Tiguan buyer guide for a thorough dependability report. We also urge that you always follow the instructions in the owner’s manual.
