2013 BMW X3 Review

The BWM X3 is a five seater compact SUV that has been in production for three generations starting from 2003 to present. The first generation known as the E83 was in production from 2003 to 2010, the second generation known as the F25 was in production from 2011 to 2017 and the third generation known as the G01 has been in production from 2018 to present.

The BMW X3 was conceived as a nimbler and affordable alternative to the larger X5 and it connects well with buyers who value luxury and SUV ride characteristics. In Kenya, it faces stiff competition from affordable Japanese alternatives such as the Mazda CX5, Nissan X-Trail, Honda CRV and Subaru Forester that currently dominate the compact SUV segment.

In the UK, the 2013 BMW X3 is offered with a choice of 4 engines, all diesel; these are a 2.0-Litre 143 HP turbo diesel engine, a 2.0-Litre 184 HP turbo diesel engine, a 3.0-Litre 258 HP turbo diesel engine and a 3.0-Litre 313 HP turbo diesel engine. These are linked to either an 8-speed ZF-8HP Automatic Transmission or a 6-Speed Manual Transmission and available in a choice of either 2WD(sDrive) or 4WD(xDrive).

At the second row, the legroom is similarly impressive and tall people will find it comfortable. All grades come with leather seats.

2013 BMW X3 Exterior
The BMW X3 shares many similarities with the X5 from the well crafted and angular front to the smooth and curvy rear. Higher grades such as the M Sport come with extra detailing and bigger alloy rims that give it a commanding posture.

Cabin Storage
There are several storage compartments in the cabin that are useful for storing items such as smartphones, beverages, goggles, handbags etc. At the first row there are 4 cup-holders, door panel storage, a glovebox and the center-box. For the second row, there are 4 cupholders, front seat jacket pockets and door pockets.

2013 BMW X3 Stability and Handling
The 2.0L X3 is well powered and it accelerates from 0-100 Km/h in a respectable 9.9 seconds. If you need more speed, then opt for the 3.0L engines that are powerful and quick. The M Sport that we tested for this review is super accelerative and as agile as a snake. Around corners, stability is solid and it feels like it was built for the tarmac. Off the tarmac however is entirely another story. The X3 is woefully under-equipped for the rough work and the 4WD is merely for on-road traction. Simply avoid off-road at all costs and your life with the X3 will be pleasant.

2013 BMW X3 Reliability
German cars generally do not age well especially the newer models that come with a host of sensors that control virtually everything. These cars can be problematic with age and its advisable to buy them at very low mileage. It’s absolutely important to buy them from credible dealers that can guarantee their quality.

Another factor to consider is the quality of maintenance and the service history of the car. These greatly determine the long-term reliability of the car and its important to have the car thoroughly examined by a qualified technician before you purchase it. Once this is done and you have purchased the right car, you then have to ensure that service is done on time using genuine parts. If you skimp on any of these, then be prepared for serious problems down the road.
