Detailed Review

The Toyota Noah model was developed from the popular Toyota TownAce/LiteAce platform and is largely the same as the Toyota Voxy.

The Toyota Noah has been in production for 4 generations. The first generation was in production from 2000 to 2006. The second generation was in production between 2007 and 2014. The third generation was in production from 2014 to 2021 and the fourth generation has been in production from 2022 to present.

The 2016 Toyota Noah is available in two engine options these are the 2.0 L 3ZR-FAE engine and the 1.8 L 2ZR-FXE engine (hybrid). Both are petrol powered.

The 2016 model features a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which provides smoother and more efficient shifting compared to the traditional automatic transmission in the 2015 model.

The 2016 Toyota Noah has four grades; X, YY, G, and S.

The X grade is the base model that comes with manual sliding doors, steel rims and rear attached seats. It has the following sub-grades (X, XL, XL Selection, XG)

The G grade is the luxury trim that comes with features such as dual automatic sliding doors, 7 to 8 seats, captain seats, a beige interior, alloy rims, and chrome trim.

The YY trim has the same features as the X grade but is a 5-seater. The S grade on the other hand is the sport version of the Noah and has features such as tiptronic, steering shifts, and 7 to 8 seats. It has the following sub-grades (S, SG, Si)

 Interior Legroom & Space

The 2016 Toyota Noah is slightly more spacious than the 2015 model making it more comfortable for long trips.  The 2016 Toyota Noah is built on the concepts of “majestic, modern, and high quality” combined with “mainstream and aggressive.” In the first row passengers, get comfortable chairs with lots of space between them. The passenger also gets storage space up front. The second row offers a lower deck and floor, and rotating flip seats. This arrangement makes it easy for parents to place babies in car seats as well as for the elderly and young children to enter and exit the Noah. The third row also has good legroom as well, with excellent shoulder space.

The 2016 model also comes with updated features such as a redesigned infotainment system, a new touchscreen display audio, and an improved climate control system.

Cabin Storage
There are several storage compartments in the 2016 Toyota Noah, useful for storing items such as smartphones, beverages, goggles, handbags etc. For the 1st row, there are 4 cup-holders, door panel storage, a storage shelf below the dashboard, a glovebox and a center-box. For the second row, the only storage is on the front seat jacket pockets. For the third row, there are storage spaces on the side pockets and seat jacket pockets.

Boot Space

The 2016 Toyota Noah boot is rather decent and can carry medium-sized luggage such as boxes and suitcases. The height of the boot is especially remarkable and, provided you can stack suitcases one on top of another, you should be able to fit enough cargo for all passengers. The second and third-row seats can be folded up to create a humongous boot. In this configuration, the Toyota Noah can carry large-sized luggage such as a big fridge, cooker, beds and more.

Other Extras – Double Din Stereo, Navigation (Optional), Reverse Camera, Keyless Entry, picnic seats

Safety Features – Anti Theft System, SRS Airbags, Toyota Safety Sense, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera system.

Exterior

The 2016 Toyota Noah has a modern more rounded aerodynamic look compared to the 2015 model which has a more angular design with sharp lines. The Toyota Noah mostly comes with steel rims but as much as possible we advise that you go for alloy rims. It has sliding doors on both sides, which makes embarking and disembarking an effortless exercise.

Ground Clearance

The Toyota Noah has a ground clearance of 6.4 inches (165mm) when unmodified. This is very low for roads in Kenya and the car will definitely not clear some speed bumps. The Toyota Noah can be mistaken for having a good ground clearance due to its tall height, but this is not the case. For a car of its size and considering its loading capacity, the ground clearance is below average by Kenyan standards. There are ways to increase ground clearance, read our guidelines here on how to safely do this.

2016 Toyota Noah Stability and Handling

The 2016 Toyota Noah has a high center of gravity therefore when driving around sharp corners it’s advisable to reduce speed and exercise caution. The low ground clearance coupled with its length makes entering sharp dips difficult as the front and rear bumpers clip the ground. The Noah however drives smoothly on paved roads. The power steering system provides a good level of feedback and assist, making it easy to maneuver the vehicle at low speeds.

Spare Parts Availability, Cost & Where to buy
The beauty of driving a Toyota in Kenya is that spare parts are relatively cheap and readily available. This is also true for the Toyota Noah. Service parts and suspension parts are readily available. With a monthly budget of about Ksh.6,000/- , you will cover maintenance costs. Body parts such as headlights and side mirrors are somewhat expensive. Used parts generally require negotiations and their prices vary from shop to shop. In Nairobi, most spare shops in Industrial area and Kirinyaga road stock these spare parts. You can get listings for these shops in this link

2016 Toyota Noah Reliability

The 2016 Toyota Noah is generally considered to be a reliable MPV. Toyota is known for producing vehicles with a reputation for reliability, and the Noah is no exception. However, like any vehicle, the Toyota Noah may experience certain issues over time, so it is important to research and consider the reliability record of specific models and trim levels before purchasing. To minimize the risk of reliability problems, it is recommended to follow the car’s guidelines as per the Owner’s manual and get regular service check-ups.
