The Mitsubishi Outlander has been in production for four generations since 2001. The first generation was sold as Airtrek in Japan and Outlander in other markets from 2001 to 2005. The second generation was produced between 2006 and 2011. The third generation was launched in 2012 with a new hybrid known as the Outlander PHEV injected into the lineup. The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander comes with five engine options these are the 2.0-liter 4J11 MIVEC Engine, 2.4-liter 4J12 MIVEC Engine, 3.0-liter 6B31 MIVEC Engine all petrol, the 2.2 4N14 DI-D  diesel engine and the  2.0-liter 4B11  PHEV engine for hybrid version.

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Grades

1. 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander ES- This is the base grade that comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights and taillights, heated mirrors, rear privacy glass, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, a rearview camera, voice controls, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen display.
2. 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander SE-  This grade adds foglights, keyless ignition and entry, body-color side mirrors with integrated turn signals, an electronic parking brake, heated front seats, and an upgraded audio system with a 7-inch display, satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
3. 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL- This grade gets you roof rails, automatic wipers, gloss-black interior trim, leather upholstery and a power driver seat . It also boasts a range of packages  which include (Premium, Advanced Safety, and Touring)
4. 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander GT- This trim comes standard with All-wheel- drive and adds  LED headlights, silver roof rails, chrome exterior beltline accents, shift paddles and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Interior, Legroom & Space

The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander features a well-designed interior with high-quality materials, including soft-touch surfaces and attractive accents.

In the first row, the seats are comfortable and offer ample legroom for both the driver and the passenger. The second-row seats are also comfortable and can slide and recline for additional comfort, especially during long drives. The third-row seats are a bit cramped and are not suitable for adult passengers.

Cabin Storage

In the first row, there are 4 cup-holders, door panel storage, a storage shelf below the dashboard, a glovebox and the center box. For the second row, the only storage is on the front seat jacket pockets. For the third row, there is one pocket compartment on the left side.

The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander comes with a spacious boot that has a capacity of 34.2 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded down. With the second-row seats also folded down, the boot space increases to an impressive 63.3 cubic feet. This can accommodate luggage and other items for a medium-sized family.

Mitsubishi Outlander Safety Features: Antilock disc brakes, rearview camera, traction and stability control, hill start assist, driver knee airbag, front-seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags for the first and second rows.

Exterior

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Stability and Handling

The 2017 Outlander has a  stable and composed ride with decent handling features. It received some updates to its suspension system, including new front and rear dampers and revised spring rates which absorb bumps and imperfections on the road, providing a smooth ride for passengers. The Outlander also has a low center of gravity, which contributes to its stability and handling.

However, some owners have noted that Outlander’s steering is a bit vague and lacks feedback, which can make it feel disconnected from the road. The braking performance has also been criticized for being somewhat average.
